Privacy Policy
ReturnBy is a local-first Android app for keeping receipts and purchase records. The app does not require an account or automatically read your inbox. This policy explains what stays on your device, when an online request occurs, and what happens when you share or back up data.
Information ReturnBy handles
You choose the receipts, screenshots, photos, PDFs, email files, text, or manual details to bring into the app. ReturnBy stores supported original files, extracted receipt text, merchant and item details, amounts and currencies, purchase and other dates, return or refund progress, policy evidence, reminders, and app settings on your Android device. The app also stores the version and time of your in-app privacy and limitations acknowledgement locally.
ReturnBy uses this information to prepare editable purchase records, help you find receipts, show date timelines, and schedule local reminders. It does not operate a ReturnBy account or purchase-record server.
Receipt reading and payment numbers
Image and supported PDF text recognition uses Google ML Kit on your device. Receipt parsing and return-policy interpretation also run on the device. Results can be wrong or incomplete, so you can review and edit details before saving.
ReturnBy screens extracted text for long payment-card numbers and redacts detected numbers from stored text. If a sensitive number is detected in extracted attachment text, that original attachment is not copied into saved app storage. This screening cannot guarantee detection, especially in unreadable images or files. Review originals before importing, backing up, or sharing them.
Google states that the ML Kit SDK may collect device and app information, per-installation identifiers, performance metrics, configuration and feature-event data for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google says this SDK data is encrypted in transit. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and Google's privacy policy.
Online return-policy lookups
To help find return terms, ReturnBy may visit public retailer websites and may send the merchant name and purchase country to Bing search. Those services receive ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, and handle it under their own policies. ReturnBy does not send receipt files, product names, purchase dates, totals, payment details, or order numbers with these lookups.
Following a retailer link opens that website outside ReturnBy. Retailer policies can change, and an app estimate is not a guarantee of return eligibility. Check the policy and your purchase circumstances before relying on a date.
Sharing, backups, and other services
ReturnBy has no automatic cloud sync, automatic inbox access, billing, or ReturnBy advertising service in this version. Android automatic backup is disabled for the app.
You can choose to share an individual receipt or export a ZIP backup containing purchase records, receipt text, and originals. ZIP backups are not password-protected. The destination app or storage provider you choose handles the copy under its own policy. Restoring a backup replaces the current ReturnBy records on that device.
Local notifications may contain purchase information. You can control reminders in ReturnBy and notification permission in Android Settings. Android may delay or miss a notification.
Storage, security, and deletion
App records and supported originals remain in app-local storage until you remove them. You can delete local receipts, drafts, purchase records, and reminders through ReturnBy settings. Clearing app storage or uninstalling the app removes app-local data. Copies you exported or shared elsewhere are not deleted by ReturnBy.
Local data relies on your device's app-storage protections and the security settings you enable. Manual ZIP backups are unencrypted, so keep them in a place you trust. If you want to move records to another phone, export a backup before uninstalling or changing devices.
Your choices and acknowledgement
You choose what to import and share, can correct prepared details, and can turn reminders off. Before using the workspace, ReturnBy asks you to acknowledge its in-app privacy and limitations notice. The accepted notice version and time are stored on your device and remain visible in Settings → Privacy & limitations. Material notice changes require a new acknowledgement. That acknowledgement does not authorize future cloud uploads or waive applicable legal rights.
Children
ReturnBy is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children.
